Sinulog

"We really hate paganism but we celebrate Sinulog". Why is it so? Maybe because Spaniards tolerate us or else they make us suffer during the time that we are in there hands but, Do you ever ask your self why we celebrate Sinulog? This is just a pick up questions that I know most of you ask for it. But since it's traditionally celebrated by us, We left it hanging.

Since as we all know Sinulog is an annual festival held on the third Sunday of January. Literally the features of Sinulog as we can see is the street parade with participants in different places dancing to the rhythm of recycle drums, trumpets, and native gongs. Each participants presents there own emblem that represents them as a whole wherein that emblem is the product that they make proud of and also  to say thanks to miracles Santo Nino.

According to Wikipedia on April 5, 1521, the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived and planted the cross on the shores of Cebu, claiming the territory for Spain. he presented the image of the child Jesus, the Santo Nino, as baptismal gift to Hara Amihan, wife of Rajah Humabon. But despite the fact that Ferdinand Magellan presented the image of the child Jesus the point is Sinulog for us focuses not on the ritual itself but on the historical aspects that symbolize the Cebuano people's pagan origin and the country's embrace to Christian faith.

My First Foreign Interface

When we talk about foreigners, the first thing that comes into our mind are those people live in the other country for intance like, US,Japan,China,Korea and etc. My first foreign interface is with the Korean people. It was good but it doesnt satisfied me because were only given  minutes to know those Korean student in CTU but despite of it we are all having fun at the end. To tell you everything, this is what happened.

Our teacher assigned us into different Korean students and it so happened that I and my partner is assigned to the most jully, friendly and chubby korean which is Alan. He is Moon Gyeong Ho, 21 years young and taking up Civil Engeneering at Chyeong Yang University. He like to play soccer and love to eat kimchi. Kimchi is the traditional korean fermented dish made of vegetables with various seasonings. As far as i know korean people likes spicy food. He also like to construct a building someday so that  his parents will be proud of him. It was'nt his first time to visit Cebu. As I go along questioning him, I found out that he can't fortunately understand my question so I have to use another word or term just to let him understand me. I was really amaze of Alan's courage in a way that he really wants to satisfied us with his answer but if he can sense that were not, he always say "sorry". And yes, we understand him because learning another language is difficult most especially English which is commonly use for communication processs. Vice versa,Alan ask some questions to us. He teaches us some language that they daily use like " annyeong haseyo" and etc.

Koreans are friendly like Alan. But like what they said not all. Maybe it is just a short time but at least, ive tried to. Hope I can meet back.
